In this series of ‘Coopah Recommends’ blogs, we are going to share our top recommendations for the most common questions we get asked by our community of runners, and this blog is all about Our Top 5 Cross Training Exercises.

As much as we love running at Coopah, we also not only understand the importance, but enjoy cross training! Cross training has so many benefits and can really make a difference to your training, help to reduce the risk of fatigue + injury and also help to improve your overall fitness!

Here are our Top 5 Cross Training Exercises you should look to include in your training programme;

Swimming

Swimming is a low-impact activity that provides a full-body workout. It helps to improve cardiovascular health and build upper body strength, without putting any additional load through the body. It can also be a great way to keep up your fitness if you have picked up an injury and are unable to run

Cycling

Cycling is a great way to build leg strength and endurance. It's a low-impact activity that can be done indoors or outdoors, and either on a static bike or road bike. And similar to swimming, it can also be a great alternative if you are unable to run.

Yoga

Yoga is a great way to improve flexibility, balance, and core strength, which are all really important for running. It can also help to reduce stress, improve wellbeing and prevent injury.

Walking

Walking is perhaps one of the most underrated forms of exercise out there! Walking regularly can help to improve your overall fitness, increase energy levels, reduce stress, build muscle + help to maintain a healthy heart! Try adding walking into your daily routine, and aim for at least 30 minutes a day, and see what a difference it can make!
